There were many twists and turns in our plans for Colorado this year. Our goal of the Weminuche Wilderness was not to be. Ultimately, Mount Ouray served as a great acclimate hike, and Vermilion Peak ended up being our final destination. Both of these hikes had their fair share of excitement.
On Mount Ouray’s “Devil’s Armchair”, everyone enjoyed the hike to the summit, but the descent did not go as planned at all.
Vermilion Peak was just one part of a great backpacking trip to Ice Lake, Island Lake, Fuller Lake and also Fuller Peak. The nonstop scenery on this hike makes it one of my favorites, but this trip too was not without its unexpected drama.
