So I’m done with the Hundred Highest. Now what?
After the highs of 2021, I hardly set foot on a hiking trail in 2022. In retrospect, I’m hoping 2022 was the low point of my “hiking career.” The one fun hike I did in 2022 was one I’ve done several times before, and it is still one of my all-time faves: Old Rag Mountain in Virginia. I’ve been there so many times I’m not bothering with another trip report, but here are a couple of pics:
Onto 2023, I’ve vowed to get out more again, whatever it takes.
In February I was able to snag two hikes not far outside of Boulder.
Over the years, I’ve been to the summits of Longs Peak and almost all of the surrounding peaks in winter. Twin Sisters, while more accessible and easier than most, remained the one outlier I had never visited–so this was the time to go! Hiking conditions were not ideal; there were such ferocious winds that I was taken off my feet just shy of the true summit, but got away with only minor injuries.
The following weekend, a nice hike in fresh snow around the NCAR was just what the doctor ordered to get some more fresh air while avoiding further injury.
